Chinese

Our test for our last unit (see last blog post) will be MONDAY. On Tuesday we will begin the next unit- 1 B 15. We had to skip a unit in the last Chinese textbook in order to get the Chinese New Year unit in on time, so we are going back to 1 B 15 in the pink Singapore textbook.
Here is a video of the terms they will need to be able to read/recognize and say:

They will be learning to read the terms in the stories as well as write the following vocabulary terms:
  • huì- can, to be possible, will
  • diàn- electric
  • nǎo- brain (电脑- "electric brain"=computer :) )
  • shū-book
  • bāo-bag
  • qǐ-to rise, to get up, to start, appear
  • zì- self
  • jǐ-oneself
We encourage you all to have your student practice writing the above characters (and using them in sentences, which they should be able to do by now) frequently. Any repetition is beneficial, as they are hard to memorize sometimes!

Chinese Readers

The readers are still coming home the first day of the week and should be back at the latest by the Friday of the same week. They are not expected to read them perfectly, but are expected to be able to pull out characters they know from class. Please make sure they keep track of these readers and return them, as they cost $5.00 each and will not be able to receive the next book until they have turned in previous books.

Math

We began our unit on Measurement (Ch. 15) last week and we will be continuing this for the next few weeks!

Homework Expectations:
  • Homework will be given Mon-Thur in English & Chinese (except for occasional "no homework" days after a long day of testing or other occasional exceptions)
